The Prince Question 5

Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, and blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. This would not work for a prince, because what they have on earth is considered much more important then what would happen in the future or after death. Because princes are obviously royalty, they have many expensive and fine material objects, which show who they are in society. This is important to them so that they do not get mixed up with the lesser people of society.
Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted. This won't work for princes because if they mourn then the whole kingdom worries. If at war and losing, a prince cannot show his feelings for fear of the whole army quitting because their leader is scared. Without showing feelings, the prince has full control because he is considered a strong leader.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Without corruption, a prince cannot run his kingdom. There has to be some form of deceit because without it certain actions will not work. Like if a kingdom was on the verge of going bankrupt, the prince could not say this because the people would move and leave him with the problem of gaining more money.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Peacemakers just don't work in royalty and running a kingdom. There is always a hunger for more land to rule over, which means war is needed to take over the land that is wanted. Peace doesn't work since the land wanted would not feel a need to fight for their land because the people who want it are too soft to take it over by force.

The Prince Question 4

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven and blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. If a person is not very forward and outgoing, then they will be in heaven. Unlike on earth when a person is very brave and forward, they receive less in heaven, since they already have everything on earth.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. The people who show their feelings will receive feelings from others. It would be better than being very withdrawn about one's feelings, because the people would not know how to react to that person. If the prince acted like that, the people would not know what to do and would not think it proper to show emotions themselves.
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God. To be a prince, they would have to be corrupt in some way just to stay in power, which would mean that they would not see God in the end. They would instead see Hell and the bad things that would come from living their lives corruptly.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Because of wars, princes would not be able to fulfill a peaceful life. They have to start or go into war against other kingdoms, which would not be good on their part for keeping their lives full of peace instead of hatred and war.

The Prince Question 3

When is generosity a good thing? To Machiavelli, in Chapter 20, bullet 2 , giving people weapons and/or other material things is a bad idea. If the prince would have to take it away, then the people would be insulted and would think the prince had considered them distrustful. Being generous would mean that if he gave one thing to one person, then the rest of the people would want something as well. With all of the nagging from the people and the thought of being insulted, the prince would have a hard time keeping up with all of the complaints among the people. If the prince were to be generous and give out to the people, then the ones who did not receive anything would hold it against him and when the time came for the prince to need those people, they would not remain loyal to him, which could cause problems with the problem that was needed to be fixed. Hatred would be created among the people towards the prince, which would bring disloyalty and complications for the prince, since it was he who would be in trouble with the people. Because of these issues, the prince has an extremely stressful life within his kingdom, since he has to watch what he does and with whom so he will not offend anyone and cause turmoil throughout the land.

The Prince Question 2

The prince's greatest ally is also his greatest enemy. The people of the land he rules are those allies and enemies. They can either make the prince or break him, which is a rather touchy subject. He has to keep the people happy because if they turn against him, his whole reign could fall apart and he could become the enemy of the people. Obviously it is a hard scale to keep balanced between his needs and the needs of the people.
In the mind of the prince, he has two things he needs to make sure stay in his favor; the thoughts of the people and the plots of the enemies. Because of the wars that were waged, the prince would need his people to go into battle. However, it seemed that every time there was nothing wrong in the land, the people needed the prince and everything was fine, but when there was a war, no one needed him and nothing went right because there was almost no one there to fight in the was. The prince needed to figure out a way to keep the people in need of him at all times. If he had no people to fight in the wars, he would surely lose the wars eventually. He also needed to keep his enemies on his side. If they were on his side, then he could get rid of his other enemies. With the ones on his side getting rid of the other enemies, then he could keep up his power within his kingdom.

The Prince Question 1

In the present, being in the mafia is rather tricky. It takes hard work, dedication, and a sly personality. One cannot keep the mafia running if they cannot stick stick up for their own ideas against the group and march forward through tough times. The mafia needs a strong leader that would get the job done whether it was legal business or not. Oliverotto da Fermo sounds like the best for the job.
Oliverotto grew up with his uncle, since he was orphaned when he was a young boy. When he was a little bit older, he was sent to fight and train under the military man, Pagolo Vitelli. Under Pagolo, Oliverotto became highly positioned in the military profession. He was a witty, energetic man who was the first of his kind in the military profession. However, Oliverotto did not like being under command, and so he decided to seize the city of Fermo. His uncle lived there, and so as part of his plan, he decided to go visit him in Fermo. And while there, Oliverotto rode on horseback to the palace to besiege the chief magistrate there.
He would be the best for the job as running the mafia, because of his need to be on top. He is sly in his planning for taking over places and has a good physique to help with the heavy lifting if need be. Oliverotto was good at forcing the play head on as well. He would take the people by surprise and conquer before they had a chance to react. Oliverotto was good at leading the people and giving them orders as well, which would make him a great mafia boss.
